I would like to introduce Lara, she is Stones Detroit’s Dog of the Week. Lara was a stray pup that had been picked up by animal control and taken to a high-kill animal shelter in Ohio. Lara was on her last day when Last Day Dog Rescue took her in. She is believed to be a mix of Border Collie and Labrador Retriever. She weighs 50 pounds and is about three years old.
Lara’s foster mom tells me that she has many of the Border Collie’s personality traits, which is to say that she is one smart girl who is very active and loves to have a job to do. She is very sweet and is extremely eager to please. Lara is gentle, affectionate and would love to play fetch all day long. If you throw her a ball it is unlikely that the ball will ever hit the ground, her speed and agility make for a great Frisbee partner. Lara will play catch or tug of war for hours on end. Although Lara is crate trained, she would not do well spending hours every day in a crate. Her intelligence and level of energy calls for an owner that can give her the proper exercise and attention that she needs.
Lara is a bit timid around new people but warms up quickly. She loves children and is very gentle with them. She is housebroken and very quiet, her foster has not heard her bark at all.
I cannot believe that Lara has not been adopted yet! She is one of the smartest dogs that I have come across. Her intellect and dexterity would make her a great candidate for dog sports like agility and obedience competitions.
